Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7:51PM Ahh....it's that time of year again.... children have absorbed just enough musical knowledge that it's time to move on to real live band instruments.
The children were tested about a week ago to see which instrument they are best able to produce quality "sound" with. Kidlet #2 was able to make music on all of the instuments that were availalble.... so the options were open.

She has wanted to play the trumpet for over 2 years now.... and was extremely delighted when her first choice was granted. She came home today with a big black box containing a bright, shiny, new trumpet. She was so excited....it was almost hard to contain!

She has shown us how to use the valve oil to prepare the instrument for play.... and how she has to take care of it..... and all the positions in to play the proper notes.
She has also been practicing ten minutes at a time every hour......
We have made it very clear that this gorgeous, shiny, new trumpet is not to be used as a wake-up call in the mornings... just in case! :-)

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 4:32PM I ran out of coffee this morning ( I know....the horror!) and had to run down to the grocers to replenish my supply. As I was walking in, the sushi chef was just putting out a fresh selection.
I could not pass them up...they just all looked so delish!

Sushi really is a work of art as much as it is a delicous treat. I would love to one day learn how to roll my own.... maybe when I retire ;-)

Monday, January 25, 2010 at 10:20AM Ever have one of those days where all you actually want to do is relax.... but it never seems to happen? Yesterday was that day for me. On the bright side, my playful pup was more than willing to sit on her favorite chair as I snapped frame after frame.

Yesterday was also grooming day for the dogs. We got them all bathed and they had their nails trimmed. They were lookin' so fine... until we say the trail of blood all over the house. :-( Hubby nicked one of her claws and it bled for quite some time...poor girl.
Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 9:02PM I appear to be on a food kick today....
The kids are still home for Christmas vacation and you know that means that there is food constantly on the go go go....The kids had friends over so it was pizza and salad for lunch!

A huge hit everytime.... and the kids were actually not moritified when I took photos of their food in front of their friends before serving it. ;-)
I'd say that's progress!! LOL
I realized late this afternoon that I really should have something a bit more inspiring than a bowl of cereal for the first day back to classes, so I scoured the 'Net to find a recipe for which I already had all the ingredients on hand... Orange Muffins it was!

I did swap out the all-purpose flour for whole-wheat and used Spenda instead of sugar. They smell absolutely delicious and I'm sure they will be awesome with jam. Let's hope the rest of the family agrees!
Back to work for all of us tomorrow....... Why do vacations have to pass by so quickly?
